(22,462 posts)That would be grounds for impeachment before he ever got in I would think.
EDIT: I found it. And I still think this is somehow unconstitutional but maybe I am wrong.

Any President can be impeached by the House for no reason at all.
All impeachment means is being "charged". This triggers a "trial" in the Senate.
A President-Elect can't be impeached before being sworn in, and especially not before being elected by the Electoral College.

(22,462 posts)And I do understand that impeachment is not a final judgement.
Is "removed from office" the correct way to say it?

(48,959 posts)If you mean to ask can he be prevented from taking office after the election (in the unlikely event of his election), only the Electoral College can prevent that, and it would be as close to any Constitutional crisis as we've ever had if they tried. In any case, the Electoral College votes in December and Inauguration is mid-January, so not much time to resolve it, should it need resolving.
The easiest and best course is to prevent Trump from being elected by having a massive vote for Hillary and Democrats and against Trump and GOP.

(22,462 posts)and has to leave office? Nixon quit but was he forced to quit and what would have happened if he didn't quit?
I don't know any presidents that have been impeached and convicted, (or whatever you call it?)
I know I talked all over the place.

(2,957 posts)Holy crap! I've been reading the Az Republic for years. They've done a good job of keeping a firewall between the hard news and their editorial policies. They are conservative, and I only agree with their editorials about 20% of the time. But, they are old school conservatives in that they are socially pragmatic while being economically conservative.
To me, this is a big defection. It's a pretty good read and looks like an endorsement from a more progressive paper. They hardly mention her flaws, but they give a laundry list of Trump's flaws.
This will probably not put Az in play for Hillary. But in the final analysis, Az will be a deep purple and not bright red this time around.

(10,972 posts)But the head of the editorial desk is Joe Arpaio's son-in-law, so that should tell you where their sympathies lie. This endorsement is, in Joe Biden's words, a big fucking deal, unfortunately it's probably not going to sway many.

(81,110 posts)Arpaio's opponent during the AZ primary a month ago. He won that one but his opponent in the general is evidently seen as a bigger challenge.

Results (from 8/30/16):
An independent poll in Arizona has Democratic challenger Paul Penzone up 3 percentage points on Arpaio. When undecided voters were asked to choose one of the two, they overwhelmingly sided with Penzone.
It appears that the toughest sheriff in America, Joe Arpaio, is in the toughest race of his career, said Nathan Sproul, managing director of Lincoln Strategy Group, in a message accompanying the July 22 poll results.
The voters may be saying its finally time for a change. He still has plenty of time to right the ship, but needs to define Penzone quickly or it may be too late.

(10,972 posts)Phil Boas, the editor in question, does not participate in any discussions or editorials about Arpaio. They've actually declined to endorse him the past two elections. But Boas' politics certainly align with Arpaio's, and there is a public perception that his relationship colors their coverage. My favorite endorsement, when I was still a writer at the paper, was for Joe Lieberman in the 2004 primaries. They endorsed him because he was the most like a Republican. I think it was the only endorsement Lieberman got, and he trumpeted it everywhere!
