His whole dumb point he stressed over and over is that the country is so off the rails that we must at this one time, disregard character because of the desperate situation we are in. Now IF this were true, he may have a point, in theory at least. This argument will hang in the air now and Ben Carson will have been successful in this interview for getting his talking point out to conservatives.
Why couldn't one of them have some economic facts in front of them. Factcheck.org has this list, only the debt rising is a negative:

• Homicides have dropped 13 percent, but gun sales have surged.
• The economy has added more than 9 million jobs, and the jobless rate has dropped to below the historical median.
• The number of long-term unemployed Americans has dropped by 614,000 under Obama, but it is still 761,000 higher than at the start of the Great Recession.
• Corporate profits are up 166 percent; real weekly wages are up 3.4 percent.
• There are 15 million fewer people who lack health insurance.
• Wind and solar power have nearly tripled, and now account for more than 5 percent of U.S. electricity.
• The federal debt has more than doubled — rising 116 percent — and big annual deficits have continued.
That is hardly "going off the rails".
Its infuriating watching these talking heads not see the forest for the trees and simply cut through his BS with a few stats thus pulling his carpet out from under him, and then move back to the character issues once he's been corrected on the economy.
