(5,169 posts)Is ANYONE good enough for Jimmy? This past year he's become impossible to listen to...SO self-righteous. Not a hint of humor unless it's super-nasty and funny only to him(I guess). Kick him off? I hate to vote yes on censoring people---but yes, kick him off or shape him up to, at least, fairly sane rants, and more courtesy to others.

(10,538 posts)Obama did a lot of good things and a lot of very bad things too. I like to hear many different opinions just like many different news sources. Part of the problem with DU during the elections is that it became an echo chamber. We overlook the flaws in our candidate this way. Hell, we could not even talk about their flaws, much less try to get others here to write her campaign about stuff we don't like so the campaign could know.
I still have issues about no Wall Streeter being indicted over the crash. Eric Holder let BP off of probation early rather than push to revoke their probation when they killed again with the Deepwater Horizon. Corporate Democrats are what helped to kill Hillary's chances. People are tired of their Party selling them out!
Democrats are still light years ahead of Republicans in governing, but there is ample room for improvement. We must improve if we are to take it all back in the mid-terms and 2020. If we cannot complain about the bad things our Party and it's leaders are doing then we cannot make our voices heard to improve!

(3,450 posts)But I still think that you pulled your punches here! We had better start being brutally honest about our side. When we sit and chat in our echo chamber and end up blaming others without truly doing a postmortem on what we did wrong, we better not blame anyone else but ourselves for repeating the same old mistakes in future.

(10,538 posts)Bill Clinton and Barak Obama were talented Presidents who sold out to many corporate interests.Because they represent Democrats they don't go whole heartless like the Rethugs do, but they take care of Big Business (MIC, Big Pharma, and Wall Street to name a few).
The Republicans tried to block Obama on almost everything. The things they didn't were where their Donors overlap and the media looks the other way so as not to bring attention to it.
We will not get Representatives who represent us and not Donors unless we apply pressure. If we walk around with hero worship for our Democrats we will continue to get the shaft. The root cause of most of our problems in this country lies with campaign donations. We allow the rich to bribe our representatives to do what they want at our expense. This should be our #1 focus!!! We will never really fight Climate Change, stop fracking, bring prescription drug prices down... until we end the ridiculous practice of legalized bribery of our politicians.
Hillary was cut from the same cloth as Obama and her husband Bill. Extremely talented, knowledgable, and experienced, but she owed a lot to Big Money. Regardless what she said in all of those speeches to banks and industry groups, the incredible amounts of money they paid for the speeches created a conflict just as surely as the Orange One has with his kids and his business interests.
No political system is immune from those that try to influence government. Money always has an advantage. That doesn't mean that we should ignore it, we must still fight to stop what we can and prosecute corporate and political operators who violate the law. Our AG's are part of the administration and are selected to selectively enforce the law. I watch the effects of this with the BP Deepwater Horizon litigation. BP spread that money out and engineered a system that screwed the victims and saved them billions. They could not have done this without the help of politicians from Mayors to Obama (Obama recognized the non-existenant $20 billion dollar fund and gave BP the Coast Guard to do their dirty work).
I voted for Bernie in the Primaries and Hillary in the General. I will never stop trying to make the Democratic Party better. DU needs to be better by allowing some dissent as a way to improve, not just as a way to slam one of our own!

(2 posts)I don't agree 100% with Jimmy Dore, I don't appreciate his angry tirades at Democrats. However is what he says lies? I don't think anything he says can be seriously argued against. Many on the left are willing to push aside some of their principles when the Dems are in power. Barack Obama has let some horrific things happen in North Dakota solely for Wall Street profits over everyone else. I wouldn't go as far as JD I do believe where POTUS could do good he has. Looking at the current state of our media I am very grateful for any honest voice from the left even an angry one.

(704 posts)I supported Bernie but I showed up and voted for Clinton in the general election. Because I knew one step up two steps back never works. But not everyone will do that. The Democrats need to decide what they want to be, and if they aren't open to those a bit further left of center they will die as a party. Censoring that conversation, holding ears and screaming nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, will not help anything.
These are the choices ahead.
Many Bernie supporters felt marginalized and insulted during the primary. And some of them did not show up for the general. We can disagree without destroying each other. But if the party is focused on that narrow band of left center, center, it is doomed. Those days are over.
I hope that it solves the problems quickly because there will be a lot of damage to fix four years from now. Trump will be an epic disaster.

(704 posts)The problem. You just don't get it. I can't help you with that.
Yes--I have Bernie--a man who represents what I believe the heart and soul of this party should represent. I can disagree with you on that, and I can even compromise on some things. But I won't change what I believe. And before you ask: I've been a registered Democrat from the first vote I ever cast which was 36 years ago. I don't have to explain or apologize to moderates for anything.
I am NOT leaving the party. I'll fight for it. But if the attitude that you've expressed--the dismissive attitude continues to prevail, many people will leave. See how that works out when all that is left is a so-called center-left party. If this election has not woken up such diehards to the reality of the situation(and keep in mind many of us voted for Clinton--not because she was our first choice but because she was the best choice of what was left)than it's over.
I know that not everyone will accept that. They will dispute it with things like a rigged election or popular vote totals.
That's not going to change things this time around.
But by all means--continue to work on shrinking the party. It's a great strategy.

(5 posts)Muzzle the truth teller. Anything to avoid having to deal with reality. Just about every left-leaner I know is avidly gobbling up everything Jimmy has to say, nodding their head in furious agreement. And someone wants him shut down.

(17 posts)Yes, shoot the messenger! He's not a "progressive who gets things done". Loved the Cenk Uygar video posted on the link, agree with him 100 percent. This current incarnation of the Democratic party stinks, we need new voices like Keith Ellison. Obama propbably has done more with his life than I would have done in 1 million of mine, but as far as living up to what he advertised himself to be in the election of 2008 he's been a massive liar to the progressive movement. The results speak for themselves, Republicans took control over every level of government under his watch. He sat on his hands the whole time (and continues to).
