Republicans Nominate Martin Shkreli to Head Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Shkreli immediately ruled that $5000 per pill is not an unreasonable price to pay for a life--saving drug; and also ruled that fine print in customer service contracts is not too small as long as it is readable using an Electron Microscope.

Okay, just kidding....but seriously, HERE WE GO AGAIN! Whenever Republicans control the White House, they practice something called STEALTH DEREGULATION. Basically, they take government agencies which are there to protect regular citizens, and put people in charge of them who don't believe those agencies should even exist. It's like appointing a police chief who doesn't believe in policing, and who immediately makes a new policy that police officers will under no circumstances leave the police station. Those were the kind of people who were running the SEC in 2007 when the mortgage market imploded, and THEY were the last ones to find out about it.

Trump putting Rick Perry in charge of the Department of Energy is the most obvious example. Perry vowed to eliminate the DOE, and probably would have if his plans to become President hadn't been dashed by his moronic inability to even remember the name of the agency he wanted to eliminate.

Others will follow. People who think the Pharmaceuticals industry is already over regulated will be put in charge of the FDA. People who are fine with dark money and Russian spies throwing elections, as long as they throw them in favor of Republican candidates will be put in charge of the FEC. Billionaire hedge fund gamblers will be put in charge of the SEC. And so on....

But let's not forget one more agency that has a huge target on it's back! The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has ruled that corrupt businesses HAD TO GIVE BACK $11 BILLION to consumers! Those businesses, along with their GOP stooges think it's their CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to be able to make money by screwing their customers, and they're going to eliminate or weaken that agency the first chance they get, which will be on January 21st.

Democrats must decide which hills they want to die on to defend what they've built, and the CFPB should be on the list!
Here's the list:

Medicare
Social Security
Obamacare
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Dodd-Frank

Democratic Party Senators should be willing to lie down in front of bulldozers, and chain themselves with bicycle locks around their necks to the gates of those agencies if need be. To hell with civilized behavior and Senate 'comity.' This is WAR!

It's a war that they may lose, but when it's over, and things start to turn bad, at least the public will KNOW WHO LOOKED OUT FOR THEM. At least the public will know which party REALLY had their back.

Here is Elizabeth Warren sounding the alarm on watching out for the CFPB. The fact that SHE CREATED IT is another reason why the GOP will try to kill it.

For example, Republicans GUTTED FUNDING for the IRS during Clinton's second term. The first people the IRS had to lay off were the more highly paid auditors who specialized in auditing high-income tax returns. So, the IRS essentially gave a 'tax cut' to the wealthiest Americans because they didn't have the personnel to audit their taxes anymore. Meanwhile, they tried to make up the shortfall by auditing poor people more often. And then they made the perfect double play, by using that to turn sentiment against the IRS.
