Inspired by SOPA and the NDAA: END (Project 12, 12/12)

A very poetic gesture by Diran Lyons (description below). This must have taken forever to complete:

Remix Category: Silent Supercut

**FAIR-USE**
This video constitutes a fair-use of its 75 repurposed sources
Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107

The final Project 12 video -- 'End (Project 12, 12/12)' -- drew its inspiration from two pieces of legislation under recent consideration by the US Congress. The first, "SOPA" H.R.3261, is a bill that censors web content and proposes to jail users up to 5 years for posting copyrighted work*. The second, the National Defense Authorization Act, S. 1867, passed by a count of 93-7 on December 1st and authorizes the detention of any United States citizen for any reason whatever without trial**. Under the guise of homeland security, US citizens can now legally vanish into black holes.

Moreover, the remix draws inspiration from a long lineage of artworks by artists like Robert Rauschenberg, who erased a Willem De Kooning drawing. Like John Cage, who said, "I have nothing to say, and I am saying it." Like Tom Friedman, who stared at a sheet of white drawing paper for 1000 hours. Like Yves Klein's "Leap into the void." Like Kazimir Malevich's "Black Square." And like Ludwig Wittgenstein, who closed the Tractatus by stating, "What we cannot speak of, we must pass over in silence."

75 different Hollywood films appear within the first 11 videos of the Project 12 series (http://www.youtube.com/user/DiranLyons). For the final remix of the series, each of said Hollywood movies were placed again into video editing software, in the chronological order that they appeared over the course of Project 12. Focusing only on the movies' ending credit sequences, each of the sequences' logos and typeface were cut and eliminated, leaving only the pure black screen interstices (in their entirety). These short passages of blank copyrighted footage have been sutured together to produce a 17 minute 31 second silent supercut. The entire film set is listed below and time stamped. A screenshot of the tedious editing process and its 930 cuts is available here: http://tinyurl.com/7rvuz4r
