Sure I can draw the United states, as a whole, but not able to put in the individual states like Delaware and Connecticut. I do know the shapes of NY and CA, and maybe a few others but not all of them. I could probably name all 50 states...if it were a test, but drawing them in would be difficult for me as I don't know all their shapes.

I will say this, that Al Franken is amazing that he can do that.

I am lousy a drawing anything, so my version would probably not be as neat as his. Starting from the middle and MN probably makes it easier. Left to my own devices, I would probably have started on the east coast and that makes it really messy.

Still impressive in front of a crowd.

You project a picture a blank sheet and very lightly outline what you want to draw. Or you take your time and draw it in advance. Again very lightly.

The audience can't see it, but the speaker can.

You then draw over it with a darker pen.

It looks as if you are drawing free hand and from memory.

I did it many years ago in college. It's fun.

Now, I'm not saying that's what he did. Only that there is that trick. He certainly is a talented and smart man. So maybe he do that.
