(19,564 posts)Nice epitaph on SNL's part for their season finale, even though we will still be dealing with him when they come back from summer break. Which makes it premature.
As I said elsewhere, If Kate McKinnon's version breaks your heart into a million pieces, this one won't have the same effect on you. It just made me angry we're where we are now, and I'm deeply sensitive.

(205,270 posts)And I think this was intended to be a reminder of that one, though with an entirely different cast of characters - but we have to know where their sentiments lie. And with the list of Trump offensives growing by the day, we never know. Evert time you think it can't possibly get worse, he manages to top himself. I'm continually shocked and horrified that it's been allowed to go on this long...

(19,564 posts)They did a good job! It just made me think, which was a part of their intention I suspect.
Their intention, in my option was to send out the message to Trump he was done, whether he accept that fact yet or not. They delivered their message well!

(205,270 posts)It may have been a goodbye to all those characters they certainly enjoyed doing - since (hopefully) they would no longer be relevant or necessary when SNL resumes in the fall.

(4,178 posts)I think it was brilliant .
What was there to say after the election but a sad goodbye Hillary?
This was a perfect "it's over" message both to the actors and the politicians.

(54,369 posts)The unavailability abroad was probably embedded for copyright reasons by NBC. Another link might work where NBC's won't.

Thanks for the tip!

(30,736 posts)Of course it made all of us think of Kate's version, which was also a tribute to Leonard Cohen.
Let this be the beginning of the end for 45.

(205,270 posts)Apparently ratings for SNL have gone way up this season - and with good reason. Between Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon - and Melissa McCarthy, LOL, the Trump phenomenon has been perfect for them. Though I'd hardly be disappointed if this was their last chance to ridicule him - and his minions.

The three new ones are "Dumb Down" (a parody of "Downtown" , "In D.C." (a parody of the George Benson version of "On Broadway" ,
and "Washington, D.C." (a parody of Chuck Berry's "Memphis, Tennessee).
Fans of George Benson and Petula Clark will be blown away by the sound-alikes, and the musicianship is AMAZING!

(205,270 posts)We're going to need this in the next few weeks! As long as Trump is around, we're going to miss Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon, not to mention Melissa McCarthy. I think many of us have been rooting for Sean Spicer to stick around simply because of the parody!

(205,270 posts)I particularly liked the "Dumb Down" one, made me laugh, but maybe it's because I always liked the original.

(37,648 posts)My God, how talented those writers and the staffers are. And Alec Baldwin was a Godsend! Scarlet Johanson was perfectly cast to be "complicit." And thank God for Kate McKinnon! Wow! Is there ANYTHING or ANYONE she can't do?
This is one of the main differences between liberals and conservatives. Liberals have a MUCH better sense of humor, and have the talent to pull it off. And they LOVE a good laugh.

(205,270 posts)And it's not like they'd run out of material! Alec Baldwin didn't hold back, he couldn't have been better! As for Kate McKinnon, she is a rare talent. Female, male, old, young, she nails it every time. More than once, I didn't immediately realize it was her!

(4,512 posts)banking that they'll be gone next season. Although I think this national nightmare is going to be longer than that.
Spicey would have been a nice touch, but I'm sure Melissa McCarthy has a day job or two.
