The desirable way for Trump to be removed from office is by the voters during the 2020 General Election, replaced by a Democratic president.

Democrats are wise to advocate for a special counsel: that Trump might fire the special counsel would be politically advantageous for Democrats, that the counsel’s investigation will take years would also be politically advantageous for Democrats.

A continuing investigation during Midterms would benefit Democrats’ efforts to take control of the House or Senate.

And a continuing investigation going into the 2020 primaries would likewise benefit Democrats.

Trump in the WH under ongoing investigation and scrutiny is the best political asset Democrats have.

We live in different times. Wingnuts have their very own propaganda networks and stations that lie for Trump and tell them he is being persecuted. Hannity is busy fomenting alternative theories about a rouge Democrat being the culprit of the leaks and him being murdered by Hillary for it. It makes no difference after he finally relented and said he'd take a step back because of the slain Democrat's family. The seed is planted after weeks of watering it.

Deplorables are conditioned to always believe the worst against the other, and along with any retraction there is an implied wink wink nudge nudge. ie...the librul PC police forced us to not talk about it anymore. (But it doesn't mean its not TRUE!)

If any investigation starts to boil, Fox News and Hate Radio will amp up the persecution theories. It will be poor poor Donnie 24/7. And.. Don't let the evil Democrats STEAL your vote with their lies and the kangaroo court they have fostered, and the millions it is costing taxpayers of course.

Deplorables only need a very low bar to believe they have always been right about everything, including how great President Trump is doing. And a monstrously high bar for Democrats to prove any maleficence. And RW media will be relentless, increasing the shrill factor as 2018 gets closer.

But if there is no justice in this case, we have no politics left; we would no longer be a democracy, but simply a conquered state.

This goes far beyond political calculation. It strikes at the core of the meaning of our state.

But then a Princeton study has already concluded we live in an Oligarchy. It is just one or two more steps to become a full fledged Fascist State.

People are saying all takes is enough Republicans to finally have a concience, or grow a pair, or whatever. But the reverse is true as well, all it takes is enough Republicans to go along with a possible situation where McTurtle's dream comes true...a permanent Republican majority. All they have to do is swallow what is barely left of their principles and morals and go along with their leadership in colluding to sabotage any investigation by any means necessary. Appointing like-minded stooges, and using rogue elements in the intelligence agencies to destroy evidence, who knows? Even just stalling and stretching it out as long as possible until another "9/11" conveniently happens and any impeachment talk is suspended until our national security is restored. Then a new war and the boost that always gives any President.....who knows?

I admit I'm a bit paranoid, but its scary to watch each step towards fascism be taken one by one right out of the textbook. And just before every one of them, most people say "nah...it will never happen"
