2. They figure they can get away with saying anything

Since Trump does that every day. It's the "new normal."

6. And their owners.

The monied class. Strange how they all retire as multi millionaires, isn't it? Maybe it is time to end their pensions, since it is small change to them. If tRumpcare is so great, then get off taxpayer welfare, join that plan themselves. It is an outrage that they are pimping this so-called "plan" while making exemptions for themselves, for LIFE!!

7. So often I see something important on Joy Reid, Rachel Maddow or Lawrence O'Donnell

That I think should be required viewing for every American. There must be a way to get the truth out there. I know it's too much to expect them to read.

3. Republicans are so full of $hit.

Insurance pools only work with EVERYONE in them--those who use the insurance a little or none along with those who do use it.

Trickle down economics has been debunked for YEARS. There is no economic benefit to handing money back (taxes) to people who don't need it.

Take the insurance industry OUT of the equation (with their huge profit built in) and there would be plenty of funds to provide a reasonable amount
of care to everyone in this country.

The answer is so obvious. Get rid of insurance companies and provide universal health care funded through tax collection.

And we'll never get there with Republicans in charge. When are people in this country going to wake up? Oh, I forgot. They are so stupid
they voted a pathological liar and con man in to the office of president AND returned so many Republicans to Congress that these fu*king
Republicans can just about do anything they want.

Reich is right: Republicans could so easily tweak the ACA to make it better. But they don't want to make it better. Republicans don't want to
do anything other than line the pockets of their already wealthy donors and patrons.

Republicans can go to hell. Worthless, mean a$$holes.

4. I agree with everything you said.

We need the Robert Reichs of the world to speak out with the truth. The problem is, the Republican constituency has gotten used to swallowing the lies. It sure didn't take long.

8. The tRump supporters

cling to their guns and bibles. They have been convinced that the democratic party want to destroy their religion, and take their toys away. Some people just refuse to see the truth.

9. Hardcore Trumpanzees can't be reasoned with, but those who

can still have a conversation may be pulled into a dialog with a question and statement.

Q- What value does a for-profit health insurance company add to our healthcare system?
Let them fumble around until they find the right answer on that. Hint- "None"
Some will say it efficiently distributes risk, but how is skimming 15-20% of premiums considered efficient?

Statement- The most efficient risk pool is one that covers everyone and any attempt to 'underwrite' is simply maximizing profits by denying those most in need.
Kick that one around for a while and they'll often say we can't afford healthcare for all.
To that, I say we're already paying more $/patient (and with worse outcomes).

13. this is right on

and I can't understand why the rest of the companies in the US just let the insurance companies continue to rake _them_ over the coals as well. What a boon for everyone involved it will be when we get single payer healthcare, finally.

10. Why is it that noone tells the reason

why the ACA (Obamacare) is not as good as it should be? The reason is because the republicans weakened it, they fought hard for the ACA to fail and whatever is wrong with it people have to thank the republicans for it.

It drives me nuts when a republican goes on TV and rants about how bad the ACA is and nobody tells them why there are problems, because they, the republicans, created them.

They should say just two things:
1. The ACA is not as bad as you want to make it look.
2. Whatever is bad with it, your party, the republican party, did it, your party is the cause of whatever is wrong with the ACA.

If I am not mistaken, the republicans introduced 100 amendments to the ACA when it was being discussed.

12. It's because there aren't enough people who can explain it in terms people can understand. Howard

Dean is a great exception, and regularly calls the Reps on their bullshit.

It's unfortunate that the likes of Lanhee Chen can spout utter rubbish with little coming back, because the interviewers don't understand enough to catch him, and others, on it.

11. Yet again a thread title doesn't live up to the billing. I wish it were otherwise.

Anyone who doesn't understand the benefits of why young people should have to enrol in Healthcare, would have been none the wiser from this.

I would have expected Robert Reich to have gotten over the straightforward idea that while young people are paying into a system that they may not benefit from right now, they will benefit in time to come, when they are older (and need to use healthcare). And then the young people of that time, will subsidise them.

He should have also pointed out that IF young people were able to get out of signing up for healthcare, and then subsequently got ill, the Republicans were trying to get rid of pre-existing conditions, it would be a death sentence for them !!!

We have Community Rating here in Ireland, and while we have our own problems with a desperately inefficient Public Health Service, once you are in the system, it works quite well.
