(3,240 posts)Why is it that goose stepping seems to be the preferred way to march in oppressive authoritarian countries?

(11,097 posts)The video is funny as hell. The work in synching the marching to the music is simply great.
What bothers me is that it reminds me to the racists cartoons of Japanese in pre- and early WWII. There was a racist assumption that Japanese soldiers were near-sighted bumblers. This dismissal of the Japanese as soldiers lead to underestimations - and early defeats in WWII in the pacific.
Make no mistake. The N. Korean military is very capable. If it came to a ground war - which is unlikely - the US will win but at a heavy cost - to both US troops and S. Korean civilians.
I don't have the answer but a ground war in Korea is unacceptable.

Seriously, I wouldn't read too much into it. It is just supposed to be funny and to ridicule militarism and authoritarian military displays with humor. Which it does very well.

(11,097 posts)It did a good job of poking appropriate fun at the crazy militarism. The whole N. Korea thing scares the hell out of me. I'd feel one whole lot better if we didn't have a President at least as crazy as Kim.
