The Daily Show: The Battle for the Republican Party

Trevor encourages congressional Republicans to speak out against President Trump like conservative Senators Bob Corker and Jeff Flake did.

We're beginning to see a few cracks in their efforts to ignore or justify Trump, but not nearly enough. And it's the Republicans who need to force him out - same as they did with Nixon. I'm just hoping that they move this along - while we have enough left worth saving. I remember seeing all the Democratic hopefuls on that stage back in 2008 and my first thought was wondering who would be willing to take on the job now - there was so much that needed fixing. But that was nothing compared to this - while the news covers Trump's latest insults or ridiculous gaffes, his anti picks are working behind the scenes to make life worse for Americans. There's no time to waste.

They've forgotten how to actually function and legislate in Congress. Certainly Mitch McConnell was proudly to blame for this in the Senate, and I'm loving that it's come back to haunt him with Trump (no matter what story they're currently pushing). Former V.P. candidate Paul Ryan, although nicely handled by Joe Biden in their debate, has now shown what an overrated phony he really is, thus far as an ineffectual Speaker. I forget which Republican politician recently stated that it's more important to get elected so you CAN serve. HA! The Republicans long ago forgot about being the "loyal opposition," and the Democrats have neutered themselves by sticking to that old canard for far too long.
