There are claims that one of President Donald Trump's bodyguards rejected an offer for Trump to "send" five women in his hotel room while in Russia, in 2013.

Like, was five all they could muster, or did someone say "Oh, hell, no. Six is too many."

Here's the problem, and I see this all the time as a lawyer.

It would be one thing if he said, "The Russians offered to send up some prostitutes, and we said no."

Okay, fine... A Russian said, "Hey, do you want us to send up some prostitutes?" and he says, "Thanks, but no thanks."

I mean, we are talking about something that happened years ago, someone might remember it as "a prostitute" or "some prostitutes".

The problem with "five prostitutes" is that it sounds more like a response to "how many do you want?" or "how many do you got?" or "we got these ladies here ready to go."

Do you see what I mean?

Now, I will say, it is not a terribly unusual thing in Russia and a few other countries for business travelers to receive offers like this, because either (a) hotel management is running a side business or (b) someone is trying to get compromising goods.

But, either way, it's more along the lines of "we can send up whatever you want, if you want some company" and not "would you like five".

Five is just weirdly specific.

People mischaracterize prostitution. While adult women are prostitutes too, they are the exception in places like Russia. These were girls, probably 15 to 17 years old. Probably forced into sex work. Victims.
