(22,665 posts)That was built into the budget, you can look it up. Those numbers came from the CBO in 2000, not once but twice.
Instead of $0.00 in TOTAL public debt in 2009, instead we were handed $10.8T in debt and a collapsed economy. So don't tell me what Bush left us with on an annual basis. This whole mess of spending and spending, manifested itself with much more.

(9,512 posts)as I recall, hemming and hawing about bastard bush's tax bill, voting for it in the end, and then switching to Independent.
It is amazing to me how one person can have such a pivotal role in history. Imagine Jeffords voting against that tax bill. Bush would have been stymied in his first legislative attempt and some level of real opposition to bush's illegal presidency would have been seen as viable. we might have avoided financial meltdown and endless war.
It's also amazing how the past is so obviously repeating itself.

(6,226 posts)Once the horrible tax cuts for the rich bill is signed, the deficit hawks (who have been silent) will work on cutting Social Security and all the other programs we the people need. The repubs have been drooling to cut Social Security since the 1930s. Young folks have been brain washed to believe that they can do better investing than the promise of a monthly benefit. I sure hope if they do destroy Social Security those of us in our 50s and 60s will still get it since we worked our whole lives.
