5. Yeah, sugar is poison. But that's unfair to Coke. Coke doesn't cause diabetes.

It's a whole lifestyle that causes diabetes type 2. I don't think they should attack one product for containing sugar, when there are thousands of products that contain sugar, many containing more sugar than Coke. Besides, Coca Cola also makes Diet Coke, which I love. I also didn't like that soda tax in NY, when all sodas don't contain sugar. I thought that was just an excuse for a tax.

So many people eat at McDonald's, Popeye's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Sonic, Arby's, and other ff places regularly. And many don't walk anywhere, not even down the street and back. They eat doughnuts and cakes and other sweets, incl sugar drinks and orange juice (orange juice has the same amt of sugar as Coke, and has a higher glycemic rating). They eat the dreaded white foods (white bread, white potatoes, white rice), which are high glycemic. That's the recipe for diabetes.

They should have used orange juice in that ad.

6. I don't think the problem is the sugar exactly rather it's the high fructose corn syrup

7. IIRC fructose puts a higher load on your liver than sucrose

Part of the fructose metabolism chain must go through the liver, I discovered a few months back. Sucrose, not so much or not a all.
Not to mention corn fructose must come with more glyphosate due to roundup-resistant corn used in the production of corn fructose.

10. Latest research says sugar is about as bad as high fructose corn syrup

Snip:

In terms of chemical structure, the fructose and glucose in high fructose corn syrup are not bound together like in granulated sugar (sucrose).

Instead, they "float" separately alongside each other.

These differences do not affect nutritional value or health properties in any way.

In our digestive system, sugar is broken down into fructose and glucose, so corn syrup and sugar end up looking exactly the same.

Another article:

High-fructose corn syrup is nearly identical in its simple sugar composition to both sugar and honey, said Jennifer Temple, an associate professor of exercise and nutrition sciences at the University at Buffalo in New York.

"In my opinion, there is no real difference between sugar and high-fructose corn syrup," Temple said. "High-fructose corn syrup is more processed, but most of the sugar we use has also been refined and processed."

What's more, science hasn't been able to demonstrate that high-fructose corn syrup affects the human body differently than any other source of added sugar, said Claudia Perkins, a registered dietitian with the Texas A&M Health Science Center Diabetes Education Program.

"There is not enough scientific evidence to say that high-fructose corn syrup is the cause for a boost in appetite or an increase in body fat, or if it is metabolized differently than other sweeteners," Perkins said.
