I will offer that even ten or twenty years ago Trump was by no means an intellectual competent. Let alone a genius. He has always been someone who at best is on the margins of intellectual ability. People have been overwhelmed by such crap as his degree from Wharton (Not an MBA, and one professor said he was the dumbest student he'd ever had) and his supposed real estate accomplishments. In reality, he was a completely incompetent student, and someone whose bankruptcies ought to give anyone pause.

... who had various forms of dementia almost always showed a common characteristic: they could communicate with words that connoted emotional expression while they could not communicate facts or argue with rationality.

I just wrote the description of Trumpy's cognitive ability. It's identical to the cognitive ability commonly expressed by those who have dementia.

This was especially evident in folks who were in the early stages of Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's folks usually remain able to speak coherently for a longer time than folks with other variations of dementia, while nonetheless displaying profound memory and reasoning deficits.
