(24,082 posts)1. I find Tom Harthman rather long-winded and a bit dull, but the title drew me in.
It sounded like an interesting subject, and I assumed it must have some connection to the training Starbucks had just sent their managers to. I was disappointed to find that "how to train white people not to fear black people" never came up. Nor did Hartman say anything at all that I didn't already know.

(24,082 posts)3. Last night NPR interviewed a woman who will be leading the Starbuck training.
The purpose is to become aware of the ubiquity of unconscious bias, and start the process of identifying it in ourselves.

So the key seems to be consciously interrupting automatic thought streams and interrogating them. In any case, this is more useful- thanks again!
