(2,243 posts)Federal law defines brandished as, with reference to a dangerous weapon (including a firearm) means that all or part of the weapon was displayed, or the presence of the weapon was otherwise made known to another person, in order to intimidate that person, regardless of whether the weapon was directly visible to that person. Accordingly, although the dangerous weapon does not have to be directly visible, the weapon must be present. (18 USCS Appx § 1B1.1)

That is what a sane community applying common sense would do.

(905 posts)Very responsibly! We had guns, locked up and out of sight, for hunting and skeet shooting competitions. The guns were disassembled with the ammo located in a different location. As the world got crazier the guns were kept at a gun club and all the guns have now been sold or turned in on a buy back program. It seems that the more America got gun crazy the more we wanted to disarm our family.

He does not appear to be very smart or capable.
Several of the Repub candidates are falling all over themselves trying to be the most pro-gun. The first thing Hunter Hill wants you to know about him is that he was an Army Ranger. And Clay Tippens main qualification seems to be that he was a Navy Seal. The Lt. Gov already has the NRA endorsement, so Kemp (the SoS) is desperate to show he likes guns too.
And Michael Williams. Don't get me started on him.

It's like an endless tragicomedy.
He is running against the current Lt. Gov (among others) who is way ahead in the polls.
The winner will face the Dem in Nov, Stacey Evans or Stacey Abrams.

In Georgia, this sort of thing is likely to get the guy elected. It would be better of course if the kid wasn't white, but in a pinch it will do.

(14,570 posts)a gun at anyone unless you intend to kill them.
That said...funny story...years ago, during the mid-1960s, my cousin J used to bring boys home and when my Uncle R knew, he'd be cleaning his shotgun when J brought the boy in. It was one of those that fold open, and Uncle R would snap it shut, then look up at the boy and begin asking questions.
What were his plans for the future?
How was he doing in school?
Did he have a job?
Were his intentions honorable?
J is now in her late 60s and can laugh about it, but at the time she was mortified.

(1,517 posts)Basic gun safety requires that you never ever point a gun at anyone unless of course you are planning on shooting that person.
What this idiot did on camera is illegal in almost every state as pointing a gun at anyone (especially a child) is considered to be threatening them with grievous harm and even death. Not just not cool but also not legal.
In Florida and many other states that boy would have been legally able to shoot that idiot.
What an incredible fuck stick.

(6,831 posts)I think kids feel that they've had enough guns pointed at them lately - Hell, since Columbine - that this shit is not funny at all. Anyone who thinks it is funny hasn't yet experienced the wrenching gut-twisting terror of having this happen near you. And that's always one of the first things you hear at the scene,"Oh we never thought this could happen hear." It can happen anywhere.
My niece is 15. She attends Marjory Stoneman Douglas Highschool. She did not herself get wounded or see anyone shot, but when SWAT came to the classroom to escort the kids outside, she walked past bodies lying in pools of blood and body parts splattered on the walls. One of the reasons it took a while to identify some of the children is because Cruz aimed for faces. She's 15. She will never be the same. Her innocence has been ripped away from her and this moment will define her life. We are worried for her future. She is such a sensitive girl.
