(52,121 posts)who better for the job?
what could they do differently?
anyone with an ounce of integrity wouldn't last a day in that job so we might as well have someone who convincingly conveys that the white house is nothing but a pack of lies, because that's the only truth you're ever going to get from this administration.

Her statements don't add to our knowledge, they detract.

(22,768 posts)She feels sorry for poor Sarah? The Sarah who crassly and dismissively insults the press and Democrats on a daily basis? Who did such a good job lying for her boss until the stories got so contradictory and absurd that she doesn't know what to say anymore? She doesn't know which lie she's expected to repeat anymore? Poor baby!

(23,929 posts)notice how SHS says she presented "the best information", never "the correct information" and certainly not "the truth"
she put out the information her bosses provided for her
it is not intended to have any accuracy whatsoever
the Trump strategy is to stimulate (or irritate) the press into covering his bullshit, no matter how ugly or obviously stupidly untrue it is. when CNN calls out the charade, all Trump has to say is "fake news" and two things immediately happen:
1. Trump's loyalists believe the egregious falsehoods as CNN always gets it wrong, and
2. the conversation centers around Trump again
SHS herself serves two important functions in this process
1. she catapults the propaganda in a clear voice where its truth can be fairly evaluated and then summarily ignored
2. she is amazingly boring - if the press secretary ever becomes too interesting in him/herself, the conversation might shift away from Trump and that is probably the worst thing that could happen to Trump. however, SHS's superpower is how goddam boring she is: she could transform admitting to serial murders into a snoozefest.
Trump thrives on generating chaos and controversy. only by deeming him irrelevant and focusing on the actions of his underlings can the press in any way check his popularity. look how long "the Mooch" lasted as press sec, even though he looked perfect for the job -- he had way too much "personality" to be an effective player in Trump's strategy. similarly, EPA Pruitt is very much at risk, since some of his more corrupt actions are observable and reportable in isolation from Trump.
as long as the conversation is about Trump, he's winning. that's his huge "secret" -- and neither context nor honesty matter one bit. imho, he gave us a singular moment of complete honesty and clarity in his campaign when he claimed he could kill someone on 5th avenue and wouldn't lose core support -- until the press really examines the implications of this unfortunate fact, we are at a disadvantage.
when the conversation drifts to the actual effects of his policies, or those of his underlings, he loses that elusive media mojo which feeds directly into his "success". that's when we gain ground. when it's all about Trump, he's winning. yep it's that easy, it's his go-to SOP and you'll see him use it over and over and over again. and he'll "win" most of the time he does it.

(53,410 posts)I believe youre absolutely right. He wins as long as were talking about him. But with explanations like yours the number of people accepting this will reach a tipping point. It may have already happened because Fox has joined the dissenters. Maybe out of self preservation. Someday well know.
