I'll add an observation from my teen years, when broadcast television was analog, 1970's, when there seemed a new proliferation of advertisements for financial firms referring to "Your "smart money" belongs here" "Invest in Dewey Cheetum and Howe, your "smart" investment option.","At (so and so's) financial, they make money the old fashioned way, they "UUURN" it..." (John Houseman's accent on that word always cracked me up). 1980's, here came "Lifestyles of the rich and famous".
It almost seemed a concerted effort to equate those born with money to burn, or just plain lucky with investments with intellectualism, the same appears to evolved into "My ignorance is every bit as important as your degree".
I'll throw a bit a culpability for some of this onto some of the "liberal elitists", however: My older brothers earned their doctorate degrees during that 70's decade at major universities on nearly the same funds it took me to get through 4 year city college program a decade later. To this day, both of them keep up a blatantly expressed snobbishness, an air of "You've reached the doctor, we're not in at the moment but if you'd like to make and appointment you may speak to my secretary". Even our parents were dismayed with their hoity-toitiness.
Neither attended my graduation, ever even said "good job", not even an acknowledgement when I earned my specialty certification.
Some years after I'd earned my degree, I happened to wind up working, briefly, with a specialist who didn't happen to recognize me as the same person who...
A few years earlier had offered to pay me to take some of his physiology courses for him.
I wouldn't let him practice on my dog.
