(38,958 posts)He did a couple of minute plug complete with graphics for his book at the end of his program a week of so ago. It really brought home just how much the cable news shows are nothing more than wall to wall Infotainment wrapped around advertising for the latest drug we didnt know we needed. Certainly they occasionally brush up against news and journalism, but the talking heads too often are not providing any more than opinion on what appears to be carefully scripted topics with the moniker of Breathless Breaking News.
I would much rather watch a painfully bad B SciFi movie than give the Cable Noise Channels any of my time.

(204,817 posts)I mostly watch MSNBC, I have my favorites, but I can only take so much. They seem to get excited the worse the news gets - and it continues to get unbelievably worse every day. And that's exactly what they say - that we have never experienced anything remotely like this before. It really has turned into "showbiz," horrible news as entertainment...
During the campaign, I got so I changed the channel every time Trump came on, I found him that offensive. I couldn't wait till it was over so I'd never have to see or hear from him again. And I still do that fairly often. I've discovered channels I never knew existed before. I like to know what's going on, but it's gotten so oppressive that I need to take a break.

(38,958 posts)Is to not watch any of the Cable Noise Networks MSNBC included. I am still informed watching a bit of local news every few days, skimming the news feed on the iPad and visiting both Facebook and sites such as this. Life is much less stressful and Im not bothered with a bunch of self important entertainers posing as news media yacking at me to fill airtime before the next commercial segment for the drug of the day.
Colbert, the late nights and SNL have all ceased to be amusing.
I really recommend turning them all off.

(204,817 posts)The news was getting so tough to take that I figured we needed some more humor here. And it helps me to laugh along with Colbert and the others. I know that others here don't stay up as late as I do and there are some that don't even have TV, so I got into the habit of posting the ones I usually watch and when they've been in repeats I've even gotten PMs, LOL. Besides serving on MIRT, it's my way of giving back.

(38,958 posts)By posting the Late Show clips and I have enjoyed them along the way. That I am finding the shows to be less humorous in no way should be a reflection on your efforts. You are providing a wonderful service for many and its appreciated.
I just cannot get into them anymore as I find it to be no longer to my liking.

I get frustrated watching locals news. In my city anyway the local news is mostly about fires and shootings.
