of the left's "identity politics."

That's precisely the sort of "the both sides do it" nonsense that got us into this horrid situation.

Nobody on "the left" is organizing torch lit parades under swastika banners and cheering when counter-demonstrators are murdered.

Nor is anybody on the left openly colluding with a hostile foreign power to compromise our elections.

Even in his outrage, he has to get in a dig or two at that mythical left he's been demonizing for decades.

The hate we are seeing now is the blown up version of what has always been around. The republicans don't want to feel uncomfortable. They wrap themselves in a denial bubble and tell themselves that they are not racist. Yet by pretending that the ugly evil does not exist they feed the frenzy.

Him and all of his conservative brethren.

2016 was pretty damn late in the game to be talking about owls and dusk. It's been a quarter century since Newt Gingrich talked about Democrats as "the enemy of normal Americans" and was made Speaker of the House for it.The owls were flying in full WW2 bombing mission formation back then, and George saw nothing.

Will decries sycophants and invertebrates, but what do you expect from apparatchiks who have to maneuver within the Three Imperatives of the Republican Party since conservatives gained control of it:

1. Do not speak ill of a fellow Republican;
2. Get with the program or get the hell out of the way;
3: The goal of conservatives is to destroy every last remnant of the New Deal and restore the Gilded Age. Extremism in advancement of this goal is no vice.

Conservative built a base by playing on fears, bigotries, even pet peeves, and painting the Democrats as hell-bent on destroying this country. They'd trumpet an endless string of scandals as proof of Democratic malfeasance, but since most of them were mostly hot air they could never were able to deliver on bringing down the obvious Perfidious Enemy of All That Is Good And Right.

They re-engineered the Republican party into a party of credulous marks nuts and spineless apparatchiks, and Will wonders why Trump is drag-racing on the road they built?

He's only anti-Trump because he thinks it will prevent other far-right candidates from winning
