I will never forget my students' and my shared experience of reading one of America's greatest thinkers and writers.
Go Tell It On The Mountain and "Sonny's Blues" stand among America's greatest literary works.
I am deeply proud of this great American thinker; Americans should realize how great our culture is to the world because of him.
Please read James Baldwin.

(53,695 posts)such an impression on me that I grabbed any of his works that were available to me at the time. Since those days, I've moved from state to state, city to city, and my small "library" has gone hither and tither.
Again, so glad you posted this.

(2,020 posts)reading James Baldwins The Fire Next Time and Nobody Knows My Name in the early sixties changed my life. They opened my eyes to what a segregated society was hiding from me. I have several of his books on my shelves today.
Of course, seeing black women and children being attacked by police dogs on television help change me too.
