(4,705 posts)rolling walkouts nation wide, massive boycotts, disruption, nightly pot poundingin outer wordsdirect action protest for as long as it takes is what can be done. US citizens dont have the will, for whatever reason, for this kind action. Of course we vote, but softening up the powers that be by impacting their wallets and their systems is what we can do, to answer your question. Sadly, they have devoted tremendous efforts to block these kinds of movements from growing as grass roots, which is where they must arise, because it is unheard of for willing leadership for this kind of action to come together at the top.

(14,173 posts)But that is our reality. And one of the failures of her husband's term was avoiding it, or pretending it did not exist for much of the time.
We'd all love to live in a 50's Hollywood Pleasantville where when they go low, the hero goes high......and always wins!
Obama stuck to his theory that there are no Red states, and no Blue states, only the United States. That there was no real divide, and eventually Fox News, RW radio, and even Mitch and Ryan would come around and see that.
But unfortunately, we are not living in a fairy tale, or Hollywood movie. I, and I think most more liberal, left thinking folks, do not want confrontation, do not want to fight. Because we know that it can trigger a non stop spiral of tit for tat. Where then we cannot claim the high ground anymore, at least not as high. And that can be used against us. "But but but look at what they did (or said)!"
But that ship has sailed. And I would say that the ship was never even in the dock from day one of Obama's term. It was Obama standing on the dock waving and hoping it would come to shore.
We have to get 'nasty' now. Reluctantly, unfortunately. They have dragged this fight into the gutter. We can try and stand up, brush off the dirt and politely request we go back inside, put on the standard boxing gear, get into a sanctioned ring, and duke it out on even terms and by the rules, all we want. But if they just throw more mud in our eye and jump on us again, we have no choice anymore.
