4. The minute Flake announced he was resigning from Senate was the

exact minute he declared he was running for President in 2020 without officially declaring it.

So this was just a "look at me I'm a nice guy" moment

9. Flake may be most remembered as the one that helped stopped Kavanaugh.

8. Actions speak louder than words, Senator. "Yes, I recommend the Senate confirm Kavanaugh."

"But let's do some sort of FBI probe first."

10. Except what he actually was said he wants a FBI investigation, and only advanced out of Judiciary on

that condition. Never said he was going to vot yes on the Senate floor, on the contrary.

Looks like that investigstion is going quite badly for Kav.

11. He voted to recommend confirmation by the Senate. His vote "yes" was not predicated....

on anything. He said he wanted an FBI investigation before his final vote, but his Judiciary Committee vote was to recommend confirmation. That's what that vote was. It was not a vote for an FBI investigation. It was not a vote not to confirm yet. It was "yes," Kavanaugh passed muster with me. Send it on to the full Senate for a vote to confirm. There is no good reason for me not to confirm.

We don't know anything about the investigation, except that it's very limited. I see people here in DU speaking of a history of drunkenness (irrelevant), rape (rape is not an allegation being investigated), and so on. It is very limited in scope and time. News articles and public interviews are not part of the FBI investigation.

Now the Repubs are asking for investigations (wholesale and full scale) on the leaking of Ford's letter. And there is maybe going to be a criminal action against one accuser (a man who said he rescued a woman being assaulted by Kavanaugh, which wasn't true).

Odds are high that he'll be confirmed. It ain't over til the fat lady sings, as they say. But it's looking like the FBI probe is just a facade to pretend "we had an FBI investigation!"

12. Opponents?

If he thinks Democrats are "opponents" that is one of the big problems in Congress. The whole group is supposed to work for the greater good of Americans. I am sure Dems would be behind the Repubs if and when they ever come up with a good idea. It has been a long time coming.

For those not old enough to remember, bipartisanship really used to be a thing. I am always beating the dead horse of Reagan, but the Repubs went way Right during his administration, found a home and stayed there. The Christian Right carries a lot of blame in that too.

Example; The Clean Water Act of 1972. With a Dem majority in both houses the Bill passed, along with 2/3 of Repubs voting for it. Nixon vetoed it, but the House and Senate both voted to override the veto, by a clear margin. There were a large number of Repubs that abstained, but the majority that cast a vote were for the Bill. Imagine that happening in the last 30 years, getting Republicans to vote yes to an Environmental Bill their President vetoed.

15. Flake will always let you down.

Last edited Fri Oct 19, 2018, 10:26 PM - Edit history (1)

As an unfortunate Arizona constituent of this deceptive dog-whistler, I and my fellow Arizonans laugh uproariously every time he hoodwinks Mid-America, the East Coast, and all of mainstream media into portraying him as some sort of "moderate" who might, just might, "do the right thing" just before he turns around and, as always, does the exact wrong thing.

We in Arizona, of course, know all about the homophobic, xenophobic, and racist rants that his prepubescent son was allowed to spew across the Twittersphere for over a year before Daddy Flake finally made his white-supremacist-wannabe son stop. Flake then issued a 3-sentence "apology" that read more like, "Uh, sorry he got caught."

Same kind of "apology" when his other son was responsible for the death of about 20 dogs at Green Acre Dog Boarding down the road from me. Okay, to be fair, at least in that apology, Daddy Flake also sent his "thoughts and prayers" to the dogs' owners for the murder of their pets. (Where have we heard that line over and over again?)

Spoiler Alert: The reason Flake is not running again is because he was about to be thrown out in spectacular fashion for inept parenting and despicable governing. Now, this Kavanaugh baloney. Flake was always going to vote the creep into SCOTUS because that is what is closest to his own creepy heart.

His call for an "investigation" was always destined to be the same whitewash circus that he's used here in Arizona to cover up for his own family's atrocities. The only sure thing about Flake is that "what happens in Arizona stays in Arizona" if you're a privileged white boy...you know, like Kavanaugh, or like Flake's own sons.
