(7,142 posts)I voted, I'm on board, the thrill is invigorating, no stopping it, it's going to continue right into 2020 when we redraw those gerrymandered districts.
People are choosing democracy over fascism.

(87,161 posts)I'm so drained from all of this.
That is one good thing I like about election day. You do not have to listen to anymore campaign commercials.
You know, I am terrified of the dentist and I could compare this whole last year to dental visits every day! And now it's election day and I am on edge... so I am going to the dentist! Since I'm already blazing total alert, I might as well put it to god use. If they had to do any drilling I'd be put out for that, but not today.
I don't have teevee but I have been live streaming a lot this past month so I get some, but not many thankfully.
Gotta get over to get my teeth cleaned, it'll give me something else to worry about for while.

(4,992 posts)Called and logged some disconcerting behavior from one particular poll worker when my Granny went to vote. Super courteous guy took down the info, and said I was right to call them so her case is recorded if there are problems down the road and escalated the case for followup. Was reassuring to feel I was taken seriously and to help them track patterns of voting problems.
My Granny wasn't prevented from voting, but the same poll worker who logged her in made snide remarks about her looking like some other lady, put a check mark next to her name for her the name on state ID not matching her voter registration (she automatically registered when she got her new, non driver ID last year, so it was the State of Texas that dropped her middle name). He said it wouldn't keep her from voting, but maybe someone would have a problem with it later. Again, that same worker chose to help another guy with a machine in a booth right next to her when there were numerous other machines open. I distinctly saw him looking over her shoulder. Upon exiting he made an off color comment about how much fun we must have had, then added, 'a moment of fun and it's all over. A moment of ecstasy and it's all over'. If I hadn't been at a polling place with my grandmother, I dunno, I probably would have decked him.
I relate these things not to discourage anyone from voting, but rather to make you feel empowered that you can do something if you need help being allowed to vote or if something doesn't feel right at the polls.
