Nixon wasn't accused of profiting from office or of obtaining income or property by illegal means. So if that is one's definition of "crook", he was certainly bang on point there.

Of course that is also completely irrelevant to what he was guilty of.

Excellent observations! Even children learn at a very early age how to split hairs and to be evasive.

When the chocolatey-fingered child is accused of eating chocolate-chip cookies before dinnertime, he'll respond with "No, I wasn't eating cookies." --- Well, why is there chocolate on your hands and face, I'd ask. --- "Oh, I wasn't EATING cookies, I was just NIBBLING them and TASTING them."
