He is saying that there are some obvious comparisons. Personally, I think Trump is (still) acting with less overt genocidal malice than was Hitler. And his obvious desire to stay in power for the rest of his life is (still) a little less energized and focused than was Hitler's.
But Trump remains a traitor and a vicious, lying, demagogic racist son of a bitch.
And his true believing followers are precisely -- precisely -- the very model of that sizable percentage of the German population that early on submitted its hopes and dreams to Hitler's. Certainly the ugly, racist, deplorable scumbags Hillary warned us of (we already knew, of course, but it was nice to hear her say it out loud) are ready to don brown shirts and enact a Crystal Night on muslim, black, jewish, indigenous peoples, and any other community Herr Trump and his fellow traitors might direct them to attack. But -- at least as of today --they lack the organization, the leadership, the smarts, and the weaponry to pose a serious threat.
Still, as Trump senses the walls closing in, his cultic followers are getting angrier and angrier and I keep hearing repeated in my mind, a whisper at first but it's getting louder, the title to Sinclair Lewis's cautionary novel "It can't happen here," and feel less sanguine about the future.
