Yeah, if they can do it to their advantage, they’ll have no reason not to. There are a lot of tools in their toolbox, from Russian and other foreign influence, voter suppression and gerrymandering, to deepfake videos, Fox News and right wing radio.

That believe all news media, other than the God blessed Fox News, is Fake News already. And that anything they report that their Dear Leader said....is just made up. And conversely, anything Trump says about his enemies (which are automatically theirs) is the unadulterated truth.

If you add this new technology, I can see some video of, say, Hillary, or one of our candidates upcoming, saying something outrageous, and believing it to be true, and if any liberal media says its fake, then that is only more proof that its true.

But I think even more dangerous is that when a very true video, as the Hollywood Access tape with audio, comes out, one that could potentially be damaging to Trump or any GOP rep, they only have to shout how it is a "deep fake" from the 'deep state', and their base will WANT TO BELIEVE that it is too.
