(182,800 posts)They said he admitted the truth. No he didnt. He stuck with their bullshit. Multiple news operations misreported it as well.

(14,750 posts)Over the weekend, they played a 30 second clip of trump proclaiming that china would pay the tarrifs, despite how others are portraying it, and never once commented on the fact that he out and out lied during that sound clip. They just left it out there without challenge.
They aren't even honestly reporting the news anymore.

I'm just gobsmacked by the ignorance of this asshole, and even more gobsmacked that republicans love this idiot!

(5,395 posts)It's just an attempt to make the average consumer feel good when they see prices go up.
'Yeah, my prices have gone up, but them Chinese folks are hurting more than me!'
Actually, Chinese exporters will just up their prices to cover for the tariffs. The whole extra cost of the tariffs will be passed on to the end consumer.
Consequences? Consumers will think twice about buying anything made in China (pretty much anything then) and Chinese exports to the US will go down.
Not a win for anybody, definitely not the 'win-win' situation some portray it as. Just plain stupid, really.
Tariffs were originally designed to protect local industries from overseas competition that produced the same goods cheaper. They were not designed as a punitive tool.
9 out of 10 economists think tariffs are a bad idea. The tenth is a dumb Trump voter.
