Just like climate change, the wealthy will continue to gamble that their money will make them immune to consequences.
Our adopted son came to us with a twisted value system that includes a fascination with the most expensive of the cars. When he points out a fancy car or talks about them, I laugh and tell him the day is coming soon when the wealthy will be scared to drive them down the streets because if they do rocks will be thrown at them.
The environment, the economy and foreign affairs are all delicate matters that don't take well to ham-fisted solutions. After Reagan, Bush, Bush the sequel, and now Trump, the balance is tipped, and as the song says "... and you've not been hit by flying lead, close your eyes and bow your head, and wait for the ricochet".
