(206,157 posts)Last I knew, we still had troops there - and we still hear about who in Congress voted for or against the debacle in Iraq. Can no one remember back that far?? And Iran is three times the size, not to mention three times the population.

(21,677 posts)From that moment on, any and all aggression against Muslim-majority countries is almost automatically applauded by 40%+ of the voting public - and nearly all Republicans.
No matter how asinine, self-serving, pointless, or undeserved.
Bush and his boys knew what they were doing.

(206,157 posts)Or does no one remember that, either??

(206,157 posts)Was with aid from the Reagan and Bush I administrations. Iran is a much larger and more dangerous adversary than Iraq ever was - and look how we made out there. I know these things and I don't need to! How has this escaped the "deciders??"

(21,677 posts)The older ones might respond with: "But didn't Eye-ran hold Americans hostage in '80?"
"I thought you Dummycrats would at least get upset they got your boy Jimmy Carter defeated!"

(206,157 posts)It boggles the mind that so many have absolutely no sense of even recent history - let alone Trump who has no idea what has happened in the world in his lifetime. I'm amazed that he managed to remember the difference between Iran and Iraq.

(21,677 posts)He reminds me of something else from the late '70s: Chauncey the Gardener from Being There (except without any of the genteel virtues Chauncey at least had).
Cheeto's a blank slate, whose greed and degeneracy is exceeded only by his abject ignorance of the world around him. He's also, of course, an egomaniac and all-around touchy bastard.
Perfect for sly, manipulative weasels like John "new Pearl Harbor" Bolton.
All they have to do is egg him on, like a coach giving his dim-witted but imposing full-back a half-time pep talk.
"You know what they call you, son? Dumb ox! You're not gonna let those jerks get away with that are you?"
"No, sir!!! Errrrgh!"
Plus, in this case, all they'd have to do is remind him how "good this would be for your re-election!"
"And," Jared would chime in, "our bank accounts!"

(206,157 posts)What happens in this country - and this world - means nothing to him. He does not care about anyone or anything - not even enough to make an effort to learn about a damn thing! I've long believed that he got the idea to run for president with only one thing in mind - the only thing that does matter to him - as a money making scheme. Every misguided "business" scheme that he'd tried had failed and he was out of options - but he believed that this could raise his profile, he never expected to "win." But he found that not only was this a way to tap into the U.S. treasury for the benefit of himself and his grifting family, but he also found that he loved the attention, the cheering crowds, people listening to him no matter what he said or did! He had no intention of actually doing the job - and he hasn't. And he intends to stick with it because he now sees himself as untouchable, above any norm or law, because "he said so."

(21,677 posts)Sometimes I feel countries are like people in that respect:
We go through certain things to learn important lessons - and not all of those are easy.
Of course though, after Bush I thought we might have been past all this war-drum, chest pounding business.
And maybe we are. I might be that Bolton will find it harder to string the voters along this time around.

(206,157 posts)How can we have forgotten so soon?? There were massive protests all over the country - and not just here - against invading Iraq. And what did that get us?? We have to be weary of pointless foreign wars by now - and Iran is no Iraq or Afghanistan, Iran is a much more formidable enemy. And then we have Trump who is stuck in the '80s and has no idea who even rules Iran now - another Frederick Douglass moment!

(21,677 posts)He's the only one Trump still listens to! (besides his daughter, who's too busy shaking the Chinese down to care).
There isn't a doubt in my mind Cheeto called the attack off the other day because Putin called him, and gave him a good talking to.
You have to sometimes with children, you know.

(206,157 posts)Coupled with the fact that he actually thinks "he alone" knows what he's doing - unlike any president in history who had experienced advisors to consult on each and every issue we faced. And yet it takes the late night comedians to point this out!

(206,157 posts)While we were already freaking out about the countless dangers he's fomented here at home - and how he's managed to alienate and anger our allies throughout the world - now we have to be scared witless about the prospect of an even more devastating and unwinnable war in the Middle East! There is no low that cannot be reached with Trump.
