Thom Hartmann: Did Chris Christie take a line about love and respect from A Bronx Tale?

(From the 8/29 show) Thom Hartmann compares a line from Chris Christie's RNC keynote speech to a scene out of the movie, "A Bronx Tale" (as well as Machiavelli's "The Prince&quot .

So far this video is the #1 google result for "Chris Christie" +"Bronx Tale", and the only other media commenting about this similarity is the financial times.

No, "Bronx Tale" stole the line from Machiavelli's "The Prince". Changed "feared" to "respected". Viva_Daddy Sep 2012 #1

They have no use for being "loved". The concept is anathema.

They want to be "popular" in that they want praise and accolades.

But what they truly yearn for is power. The power to dominate
others as they wish, which begets FEAR (the meaning of "intimidation&quot

It also reveals their contempt for liberals whom they perceive as
bleeding hearts because liberals want to be loved by everybody.

Love? Mercy? Empathy? Kindness? BLEHHH -- who needs that
sappy shit?
Power, dominance, control, intimidation -- now that's the stuff!

I still gag at the oxymoronic phrase: Compassionate CONservative. If you SEE a Republicon performing an act of compassion, you can be assured it's an act. Like making sure a zygote has someone to protect it - until it's born - the truth is, there's something in it for THEM! In this scenario it would be the absolving of all the times they've shafted someone. Pay BACKS may be Hell, but Pay OFFS mean deliverance.
