when I first moved to VA. I had lived in Texas most of my adult life, and there were no Mexicans to be seen!! It really did freak me out at first. But as time went on, more and more showed up, and the restaurants got better, still not Texas quality, and it just felt more comfortable.
Mexican Americans tend to be nicer strangers to meet.

I have to share that with my hispanic relatives, they won't be offended at all, I'm certain they'll roll on the floor laughing. They all roll with far worse ribbing from me and each other.
I'm certain the MAGA's would blow a fuse.
