28 Aug 2019, MSNBC
I remember it like it was yesterday! I was making my world-famous (in my own mind) lasagna in the kitchen when I heard my wife scream! I rushed into the den and there it was on the television! The TAN SUIT! The President of the United States was wearing a tan suit!!! IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!! I was frozen in shock and dismay! My wife snapped me out of my paralysis: "GET THE CHILDREN OUT OF THE ROOM!" she shrieked through the horrified tears pouring down her face.
I sprang into action, taking Billy in my right arm and Sophie in my left and barreled out of the den like I was running two footballs into the teeth of the Ravens' defense! The kids were both crying in terror. "It-it-it was t-tan, wasn't it, d-daddy?" sobbed Billy. I couldn't answer him, because by that time I was bawling loudly myself!
My wife and I spent that entire evening making love in our bed, a feeble assertion of Good in the face of the Evil we had witnessed. With tears still in her eyes, she begged me to promise her everything would be all right, that the country would survive. I knew it was my duty as a man to comfort and reassure her, but I just couldn't do it. I just couldn't do it! I've never felt more useless in my life!
Unsurprisingly, my wife left a few months later and now does hardcore porn, where men, women, beasts of the field, and Focus On The Family members do unspeakably degrading things to her body. My son Billy is now a mercenary-for-hire; last I heard, he was in the Philippines helping Duterte's regime hunt down dissidents. Meanwhile my daughter Sophie has joined a cult. As for me, I lost my job, I drink gallons of Jim Beam per day, am chewing through my savings and I've let the house go to hell.
That fucking tan suit crushed all of our spirits!

To which I replied, "I filled out 3 at ESPN. It took 6 minutes to do all 3."

(23,193 posts)The worst by far was the ad nauseum, breathlessly apoplectic media coverage of the Ebola "crisis."
Other than a (GOP-run) Texas hospital botching treatment on a man who had contracted the disease while doing humanitarian work in Liberia, there really was almost nothing to this story that would make it national news-worthy.
But boy, was it ever - courtesy of CNN, mostly. All those zombie flicks people had watched over the years suddenly seemed to come to horrifying life.
And the minute Democrats lost control of the Senate that November - thanks mostly to this ginned-up panic - Ebola miraculously vanished form our tv screens (praise the Lawd!).
Out of sight, out of mind.
That said, thanks for posting this , Video Drone.
It's good to be raminded of how downright easy it is for Big Media to drive popular opinion one way or another.
Even for the most, shall we say, colorless of reasons.
