Rachel Maddow looks at a murder in Berlin, Germany that U.S. officials believe was a Russia-sanctioned assassination and notes that Russia's past reticence to commit killings in Western countries appears to have faded, raising concerns about the recently outed Russian spy living in the United States.
We're Worried About Russian Defectors, Because Of Putin
Joseph Augustyn, former director of CIA's Defector Operations Center, talks with Rachel Maddow about how the CIA protects spies and others who put themselves at risk to offer what they know for the sake of preserving American safety.

(43,128 posts)I think they let this spy go because they can use him as leverage over Trump more than they could when he was in Russia.
And, why did they ever give Trump intelligence briefings? If he didn't follow them and couldn't understand them or paid little attention, what's the point? It's the law. We have some really dumb laws.

(205,216 posts)It's a pretty bizarre story - since the assassin in Germany was apprehended when two teenagers in the park saw him dump his bike, weapon and wig in the river - in broad daylight! My thoughts about that is, though he got the "job" done, he's considered expendable by the Russians - he came out of a Russian prison - and he's currently in German custody.
As for giving Trump intelligence briefings, I hope they've learned a lesson. We already know that he shared American - and Israeli - intelligence with the Russians that he invited into the Oval Office - with no Americans present - not to mention his private meetings with Putin in Helsinki and elsewhere.
Our traditional long time allies are no longer sharing intelligence with us - with good reason! If this isn't enough to remove Trump ASAP, I don't know what is! His carelessness and stupidity is putting not only us - but the rest of the world - in danger!
