Never Forget Nazi Kristallnacht, Nov. 9-10, 1938, The 'Night of Broken Glass'

Last edited Sat Nov 9, 2019, 10:50 AM - Edit history (1)

Violence carried out against Jews by Nazis in Germany and annexed territories, 81 years ago, Nov. 9-10, 1938.

Kristallnacht is considered the beginning of the Holocaust.

On the night of Nov. 9, German paramilitary forces and civilians attacked Jews and their property in Germany and territory in annexed Austria and Czechoslovakia.

In 48 hours, 267 synagogues were destroyed and over 7,000 Jewish shops were damaged. 91 Jews died and 30,000 Jewish men were detained and later deported to concentration camps.

PBS. "Kristallnacht" provided the Nazi government with an opportunity at last to totally remove Jews from German public life. It was the culminating event in a series of anti-Semitic policies set in place since Hitler took power in 1933. Within a week, the Nazis had circulated a letter declaring that Jewish businesses could not be reopened unless they were to be managed by non-Jews.

On November 15th, Jewish children were barred from attending school, and shortly afterwards the Nazis issued the "Decree on Eliminating the Jews from German Economic Life," which prohibited Jews from selling goods or services anywhere, from engaging in crafts work, from serving as the managers of any firms, and from being members of cooperatives.

In addition, the Nazis determined that the Jews should be liable for the damages caused during "Kristallnacht." "The Decree on the Penalty Payment by Jews Who Are German Subjects" also imposed a one-billion mark fine on the Jewish community, supposedly an indemnity for the death of vom Rath...

Some deny the holocaust... Some openly brag about it.

Confederacy supporters claim it is about 'heritage' concerning the statues.

Who knew it was Nazi heritage as we saw them marching in Charlottesville, wanting to "take back America" while yelling anti-Jew statements.

America fought a war against the Nazis and supposedly won.

Yet here they are in Charlottesville marching to "take back America".

KKK Conservative boasting:

“We killed six million Jews the last time,” he answered. “Eleven million is nothing.”

We need to humanize the victims and tell their stories to many in the world today--unfortunately. I have spoken to many people who insist it never happened.

I hear that all the time.....but it seems now, that many have forgotten, or simply don't believe it really happened. I want to scream at them..."IT DID HAPPEN! How can you be so blind and ignorant?!?!

I've had Holocaust survivors speak to us during history class about their experience. I don't think a single one of them ever made it through without shedding tears. Many of my classmates were also choked up. I lived in Dachau when I was a baby, where the ovens still stood...and although I was too young to remember those images, we have pictures and home movies.

I really don't understand how anyone can deny this happened. I don't understand this delusion!
