It was said during the campaign that he used a 4th grade level lexicon. Most thought it was specifically directed at his supporters, but maybe that's all he can bring to the party. Remember, 50% of people have a below average IQ.

73 years of privileged living couldn't have helped either, but the guy is showing all the signs.
