Australia Bushfires Update, Thirsty Koalas, New Years Eve Celebrations

Last edited Tue Dec 31, 2019, 06:53 AM - Edit history (1)

Australian koalas are sedentary by nature and spend much of their time resting and sleeping in eucalyptus trees, up to 18 hours a day. The eucalyptus leaves make up their diet and provide water. When threatened by heat, flames, ground fire and smoke, koalas are unable to climb up the trees to safety. Other animals like wallabies and deer can run away to escape the bushfires but koalas are unfortunately slower and less able to flee. The spread of urban development is also diminishing the koalas' native habitat.
