It almost seems like Disinfectant Theater, rather like the TSA is Security Theater. On the surface it looks good, but in reality is only a bit better than useless.

had access to the most recent intelligence a week before it hit the news. I had to go through security every day. I had a weird key chain made out of the long end of a silver spoon, with no spoon, and they would push the newbies to check the scan of the contents of my huge purse and they almost always caught the discrepancy.

Sanitation is unregulated. They just hose things down with a garden hose. I believe the Chinese government will crack down on these places with an iron fist.

25 years ago and they had live animal markets right down the street from the Louvre. Much smaller numbers though. With the growing wealth and thus protein-meat eating in China they need to do something. There is just so much chance for pathogens to transfer to humans.
