(111,255 posts)Christianity has been infected by the absolute worst or rich man's determinism the world has ever seen, even worse than divine right absolute monarchy.
The tenets of this particular vicious offshoot says men like Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot were all obviously beloved by god because they were put into positions of power. Never mind the corpses they climbed over to get it, and never mind the slaughter they caused. All those dead people were despised by god or they wouldn't have been dead.
I can't overstate how pernicious this claptrap is, or how much of a threat to relatively harmless mainstream Christianity it is.
Christians are going to have to start taking this stuff a lot more seriously. Reagan sold them a lot of fake solidarity with other people who call themselves Christian. They need to wake up and smell the reek of having everything they believe in sold out and twisted into one of the ugliest perversions of Christianity the world has ever seen.

I worked briefly at an organization that had a lot of those people around. They are rich because they are more righteous. Because they are so righteous, they are rich.

(10,778 posts)Evangelicals actually believe that everyone is a sinner -- Trump, Obama, Clinton and even themselves -- but that evangelicals -- and only evangelicals! -- will be forgiven. Add to that the totally bizarre belief that you can tell a "true" Christian by his reactionary anti-liberalism, and you have an excellent candidate for Cult 45, someone who is proud, never shamed, of what appears to be ordinary hypocrisy but which is actually a fundamental tenet of their perverted belief system.

(19,200 posts)these pastors call their flock "sheep". Sheep are dumb, and need to be forced/herded in the direction the shepherd wants them to go.
Mindless sheep: It describes these buffoons to a tee.

(6,857 posts)it reminds me that most if not all societies have had pantheons which included "trickster" gods or demigods or sometimes just folk heroes. Baby Hermes. Loki. Coyote. Hanuman. Tyl Eulenspiegel. Many, many more I can't recall the names of. If people were saying that Donald Trump is THAT kind of a god, I wouldn't believe it, but at least it would make sense.
