I'd love to see something like this going on in some of the Southwest areas. Even if they couldn't do everything from the ground up, start incorporating things like the UV reflective paint, the use of grey water, the cooling systems etc. I know there are a few things like the solar panels over parking lots etc, so there's something happening. But overall I feel like the US is stuck in the 19th century and hanging on for dear life, instead of trying to move into the future with it's necessary innovations. The tour guide did say that it's more expensive to retrofit than to start from the ground up, but little steps are better than nothing.

This guy, that is making the videos, has some interesting ones on the Orkney Islands too. They have made amazing use of tidal, wave, wind and some solar energy there.
