(42,862 posts)Did they get their money's worth? Are the spectators secretly hoping to see crashes like this?

(5,395 posts)It's the only part of the race that made it into the media across the world, well, at least to Australia.
Without the crash, there would have been no coverage at all. So draw your conclusion from that. Probably need to delete 'secretly' from your post.
But it's a great technique, if someone is in front of you, just wait until you get to a part of the track where their tires are on the edge of adhesion, give them a bit of a nudge from behind, and say 'Ooops, sorry!' as that driver spins off into the wall.
Works every time.

Just sayin'... drive around a track with 20 other cars at 200+ mph and shit is going to happen.
Doesn't seem too smart to me.

Racing involves more than just the car. Unless of course, you think you could jump into a Daytona race and compete so long as you had a car with the same capabilities as the other competitors' vehicles.

(5,395 posts)As well as learning about the technology that goes into the cars.
Below that normal looking skin, is a high tech space frame, technology a space shuttle would be proud of, and an engine more closely related to a Formula 1 car than the showroom floor cars they are meant to represent.
I mean, a Mustang or Toyota that can do 200 MPH while doing a controlled 4 wheel drift?
Then again, there is an 8 hour race on annually in Australia. I record it and fast forward it in between crashes. So yes, crashes are a major attraction of this adrenalin sport.
