He visits a well-known theme about corporate bias in the media, but this is really, really well done. I haven't yet seen his other work, but I like what he does here.

(2,886 posts)The point of the video is that media companies only hire those who reflect the company bias. They probably wouldn't hire Warren Buffet, who thinks he should have a higher tax rate than his secretary, if he was a media figure. Or Noam Chomsky, who has probably made a mint from his books (dunno). I don't think wealth necessarily changes a person's viewpoint, though, or necessarily changes it entirely. Although he's critical that Rachel Maddow doesn't talk about media bias, she does speak positively about subjects that are against the traditional corporate interests.

(28,918 posts)these days. And quite a few people near retirement who have been good at saving money get to this point by the time they are 80. However, they don't often have much access to that money since it is in the stock market. They are only getting a bit of it at a time. I am sure they feel secure but they can't get to crazy spending it or they can go through that much pretty fast.

(2,886 posts)We already take shared responsibility for roads, armies, museums, schools, medical research (though not enough, imo), transportation. We subsidize flood insurance, farmers, small businesses (with $), large businesses (with $$$). Guess I don't know what you mean by "total socialism". I just want to be more like Denmark, without the cold and the fermented fish.

(2,594 posts)We could have socialism and not violate the constitution (at least a social democracy like Europe). This is probably closer to the original intent than our current system. Our nation wasn't just a rebellion against the British government, but against their support of early multi-national corporations.
To me the one economic system that isn't separate from the government is fascism. And we romping well down that path. That is why a moderate that is just going to maintain the status quo won't fix anything. They won't bring us back up that path. They'll maintain current conditions until the public gets angry again and elects another lunatic that will take us further to the right. This cycle has already repeated ad nauseum.
This is a great summary of corporate influence:

(2,809 posts)And discover what, if you are a TV consumer, you've been numbed to.
I killed my television in 1979, telly vision services have only been revived briefly in my household for holiday guests, then discontinued.
Useless, annoying and idiotic device.
Which at one time, for a brief period started showing some glimmers of providing informative content.
That died out in favor of crap like Goo Goo the Honey Boo Boo.
Exposure briefly to history channel had some interesting and informative programs.
In a line up of hundreds of selections of crap. Inane, whining, pretentious, overdramatized, idiotic crap.
