(45 posts)No, I can't believe they replaced David Letterman with that. He was never funny it was his writer that was funny and witty. I think the writer of his show was a woman.

(205,301 posts)I enjoy Colbert's monologue and the Opening is often very funny. But I'm also a huge Letterman fan. Back in 2008 I was fortunate to actually be in his studio audience! It was quite a thrill to see him in person, we had great seats, 5th row right in front of his desk. And I was impressed with his kindness towards the audience. He came out before the show and answered audience questions and came out again after the show just to thank us for coming. After over 30 years, he didn't have to do that, but that's the kind of guy he is...

(8,445 posts)My neighbor/friend went to see him last year and she wasn't impressed because, she said, he wasn't so friendly to his guest during the commercial break. The guest was Bret Baier. I'm fine with him not being chummy with Bret Baier.

(205,301 posts)Though there are times when I winder how much say about the guests he has. I can't imagine that Chris Christie is his favorite, though it's obvious that he loves having political guests, I'm sure he prefers them. And I remember the Bret Baier interview. He and his family were in a horrible accident and he had to reschedule because he was injured - and because Stephen announced it, it became big news and he got a lot of sympathy. But I agree that he can't have been Colbert's favorite guest...
And if you do go, especially in cold weather, the studio is very chilly. When I saw Letterman (in January) the staff were all wearing heavy sweaters and parkas, while Dave took his jacket off during breaks, I figured he must naturally run very warm!
Here's the Bret Baier interview from last year, if you're interested, though I don't know if they show the audience:

(8,445 posts)Arms crossed. kinda closed off at the beginning. Of course now that I know that he really didn't seem to be fond of Baier, I'm probably reading it with my own bias.
I watched a video of the monologue at the time, and the camera panned over the audience so quickly that I wasn't able to pick out my neighbor.
Hopefully I'll get there someday. I've only been to NYC one time, and I have to say that I'm not really eager to go back. I do not "heart" it. But I still want to go back just to see Colbert. Thanks for the tip about the studio being cold.

(2,945 posts)Ebola? Never mind, I forgot, Ebola happened during a D administration and the C-virus is happening during an R administration.

(5,801 posts)like his underlings who got sent to the slammer for Bridgegate? Of course, he feigned ignorance. Yeah, right.
I just wish any time Christie does a teevee appearance the host would ask that question. Of course, then he's stop infesting the airwaves. Problem solved!
P.S. Turns my stomach how the corporate media tried for years to portray this crook as presidential material and a palatable puke.
