they'd tell him the stock market is not the economy!
Somehow he got it into his thick skull that the stock market is a mirror of the economy. It can be an indicator of the future economy, but with Trump's tax cuts for corporations they just used the money for stock buy-backs, artificially raising the prices of stocks. The stock market is so over-valued at the moment something would have taken down, or it would have fallen under it's own weight sooner or later. Wall Street is not reality based anymore, just like Trump and his supporters.
