(23,061 posts)That is their and drumpfs real message. We hate the working class/poor and are willing for all of them to die so there's sufficient money and resources for the rich.

(7,429 posts)WTF is going on with these people? Just who is Saphier going to allow to live and die?
It's not true that all of those on ventilators are living on borrowed time and a functioning ventilator. Some people DO RECOVER, DOCTOR!
Has Saphier lost both of her parents and now doesn't care about the well-being of ANY vulnerable person seeking medical intervention during a pandemic? Would Saphier pull the plug on her own ailing mother? Oh, of course not. But the Doctor's view of the medical outcomes of those she doesn't know? Well, you know, we just can't have them sucking oxygen for longer than a fortnight, can we?

(12,323 posts)Everybody gets 1/2 hour a day on a ventilator. Save money by training one patient in each ward on how to share the ventilator. That person gets an extra 1/2 hour a day for their efforts.
followed by press release: "If it wasn't for Obama, we could'a had every home equipped with a ventilator."

(2,689 posts)For instance, does she know -- and we do not -- that patients on ventilators for more than 2 or 3 weeks all die anyway? If she's talking about futile cases where there is really no hope for the patient's survival anyway, then, yeah, I can see her logic. Don't waste a ventilator somebody else needs on a lost cause.
I would not agree with her, even then, but at least there is a grain of logic in her reasoning.
But -- and this is freaking important -- she did not say that. She is calling for the rather arbitrary decision to pull ventilators from people who may be recovering but too slowly -- whatever the fuck that means when we're speaking of human lives. And she's smiling!
I do not own a gun and am glad I don't because it is just situations like this that might prompt me to use it. I imagine if my wife of 48 years were on a ventilator for "too long" and was taken off of it after a couple of weeks because someone else needed it -- yeah, I'd have no compunction about doing something bad to the people involved.
And no one on Fox took exception to what she was laying down here? None of the other 3 people were shocked to hear a doctor say that we're going to arbitrarily kill (well, OK, "allow to die" human beings whose lives might have been saved but, shoot, they were taking too much time?

(3,991 posts)despite less admissions for covid. She is saying that at some point, after several weeks, people are going to have to come off the ventilators and either live or die depending on whether they their lungs function any longer. People cannot stay on ventilators indefinitely and she was referring to the data that over 50% of people who require a ventilator will not survive. I did not get the sense that she was saying that people need to come off the ventilators to make room for other people.
