The Daily Social Distancing Show: The World Sees Signs of Light at the End of the Corona Tunnel

Spain, Italy and New Zealand start seeing a decline of COVID cases, a Japanese mayor makes sexist comments about essential shopping trips, and South African president Ramaphosa has a major mask faux pas.

of our painfully insecure, narcissistic, defensive Trump throw a temper tantrum about being laughed at, and rightfully so. Hopefully we will have a real adult back in the White House again some day.

And I still don't get it. I know that Republicans voted for him, but exactly how did he manage to get the nomination? I mean, there were "normal" Republicans running - and Trump never even pretended to be one of those. Was there mass hypnosis or were that many "protest" votes by that many people who thought it wouldn't matter? I can't understand how anyone in good conscience could actually vote for him, Republican, or not. I know that it was the Electoral College and that he really got millions of fewer votes, but how in hell did he get the nomination when there were other choices?? When I got together with my oldest friends last summer, granted we're registered Democrats, but we agreed that we'd sooner vote for the next person who drove by rather than vote for Trump..

I'm not religious or superstitious in any way, but I honestly can't think of any logical way that this could have happened. It just doesn't seem real. Maybe Putin is really the Anti-Christ or something. All I know is that I have never seen such evil forces at work in my entire life. I always believed that goodness would prevail, but it does not seem to be playing out that way. It's not over yet and I still have hope. I am hoping for a big dose of Karma to come and give these people their due.

Sorry, don't mean to sound so depressing. I really want to be hopeful. Something good has to come our way soon!

How he's been able to hang on for so long, behaving as he has, is a mind bending experience. He basically is just not doing the job. And how Republicans continue to support him, especially after that travesty of an impeachment hearing - when all the facts were presented so well - is another mind boggling experience. And when we think of the microscope that every single other POTUS had to endure - Jimmy Carter's disastrous Playboy interview, George H.W. Bush not knowing the price of a loaf of bread, not to mention Barack Obama's tan suit and that shocking gum chewing incident, how Trump is still allowed to go on as he has makes no sense at all.

How this is all going to play out. I know he will go down in history as the worst president we have ever had, but I would like to see how people look back upon this 100 years from now and if they have learned anything from it. I would also like to know what is going to happen in November. We need to win, but even if we do, I have a feeling this nightmare will not be completely over. These people aren't going to go crawl back under their rocks and stay silent.

I can't help but wonder what history will make of this literally deplorable - and inconceivable - episode in our otherwise proud history. I wish we could know, but I picture students reading about this and teachers attempting to explain it and just that makes me cringe. We have had tough episodes before and less than stellar presidents (Andrew Johnson was thoroughly corrupt) but one would have thought that we were smarter in these days of investigative reporting and instant news. But we're right - we need to take back this country and make a start at fixing the mess. And that'll take all of us...
