I don't have the numbers in front of me, but hardly a week goes by when someone doesn't die in a city or county jail in OK. Not too long ago a nurse for the Tulsa Co jail was accused of giving "insulin" shots that were nothing more than tap water. That got buried like most of these stories. I never heard the outcome. However, for the majority of the cases at Tulsa Co., the accused is fired or resigns and that is the last you ever hear about it.
In the 80's Tulsa Co had to build a new jail because they couldn't contain their rat problem. Prisoners reported sleeping in shifts so that someone was awake to run them off the sleeping person but even then, most of the inmates had rat bites.
Many years ago I took advantage of an employee assistance program for 3 free sessions with a psychiatrist. The Dr was assigned to me, I had no say in the choice. At the end of 3 sessions, after we discussed my alcoholic husband and the fact I was receiving no emotional support from my family, his advice was to get on my knees and beg forgiveness from God for being a disobedient and hateful wife. Only then, would the "demons" leave me. THIS is the man currently in charge of mental health for the Tulsa Co jail.
