(5,954 posts)an excellent VP, but the fact that she was wasn't born in the USA could be a problem. John McCain was born in Panama, and his opponents made a fuss about him not being eligible. His defenders said that, because he was born on a military base in Panama, he WAS eligible. But still, it was an issue. Ted Cruz ran for the GOP nomination, and he was born in Canada. Many people, including high profile Democrats (like Ed Schultz) made a big deal about it. (As well as the usual rat-scrotums making a fuss about it, like Donald Trump. But still, it was an issue.)
So, I think it might be an issue. Personally, for that reason, I think Biden is just interviewing Duckworth as a decoy (so to speak). She's a flawless candidate, and a great American. Let the right wing smear machine waste resources on a wild goose chase trying to find dirt on Duckworth on the possibility Biden MIGHT choose her, when he actually has no intention of doing so.

(5,954 posts)Electoral College map. California is a deep blue state. So, adding Harris to the ticket would waste the opportunity to swing one of the swing states in our favor. As I said below, Val Demings is my favorite, because she'd swing Florida in the Democrats' favor. But there are other great candidates, too.

(8,329 posts)I have had the honor of spending a few Sundays with her at her home church, Browns Chapel. The church where Mr Lewis led the March to the Pettus Bridge.
She has an amazing academic and leadership background and would make a great VP selection. We are lucky to have so many amazing qualified people to pair with VP Biden.

(5,954 posts)If he talks to a LOT of excellent female VP candidates, we can just let the right wing smear machine go crazy trying to find dirt on all of them, and thus do the vetting process FOR Biden. If Biden highlights about 15 excellent, qualified female VP candidates, this will serve two purposes. 1. It will increase their profile, which is GREAT! And, 2. It'll allow the media and the public to vet them. Then they can do some polling to see which one would bring in the most votes, and Biden can choose the best one at the convention.
But Sewell should definitely be in the running. If for no better reason to increase her profile! If she doesn't get chosen to be VP, it will AT LEAST give her a publicity/visibility boost if she ever decides to run for the SENATE. Which she SHOULD.
(However, my personal favorite VP pick at the moment is Val Demings. Florida is a swing state, but Alabama isn't (not yet, anyway). So, Demings could easily tilt the balance towards the Democrats in Florida. By November I think Floridians will be pretty damned sick of Republicans like DeSantis, Scott, and Rubio; and will be ripe for a change. Demings could put Florida into the blue column on the Electoral Map. Plus, there's just no substitute for all those photos of Demings in a police chief's uniform, covered in stars, medals, and hash marks.)
