(63,221 posts)I have never seen such stupid behavior in my life. I am fortunate to live in a very blue area with a lot of well educated people who know that we all do this for the common good. Our numbers are still high, but our rate is declining and that is because (most) people have been taking this seriously.
I just can't understand some of these people and how self-destructive and selfish they are. They have no concern for the people around them. It's just maddening to see. Arghhhh!

(205,126 posts)I've only gone to get groceries, gas and pet food and all those stores have clear signs on the doors saying that masks are required. All the employees are wearing masks, too - plus they have shields at the checkouts and wipe them down between customers. Even the gas station employee where I last went said they're wiping down the pumps. There are also limits on the numbers of shoppers allowed in the gas station/convenience store and pet supply store at one time. And the aisles in the grocery store have arrows indicating they're one-way.
But the weather's gotten warmer and that usually means tourist season in these parts. I caught the local news the other day and people are already heading to the lake - and they're supposed to keep their distance, but who's going to patrol to enforce that? I noticed ice cream places are open now and of course they're not wearing masks to eat ice cream - so I'm expecting things to get worse.
The last place I stopped had the instructions printed plainly on the door and the employees were wearing masks, but I noticed two people checking out when I walked in and they weren't wearing masks and nobody said a thing.

(112,085 posts)I'm in a red county and my best guess is that the number of people wearing masks in grocery stores is at 25%-30%. Most of the clerks at the convenience store aren't wearing masks except for one younger Hispanic male. At least the employees at H.E.B. and Walmart are wearing masks.

(205,126 posts)We keep hearing that this is far from over - and that cases are increasing in some areas - but the isolation is getting to a lot of people and coupled with the warmer weather, the prognosis does not look good, no matter where you are. We get a lot of tourists in this area and they're from all over (last week I saw a license plate from Alabama and one from Tennessee!) and based on what I saw the last time I went out - two shoppers without masks checking out of the store despite signs requiring them - it doesn't bode well for the summer. And I can't really blame the two 20-something clerks for not wanting to get into a confrontation.
